Zoning Board Continues Subdivision Variance Hearing, Updates Procedures
Zoning Board of Adjustment · Meeting of April 1, 2026
NH NEWTON — Zoning Board continues variance hearing; addresses database gaps in procedures. The Zoning Board of Adjustment voted unanimously to extend a public hearing on a two-lot subdivision variance at 11 Merrimac Road, Map 12, Block 4, Lot 9, until June 3 at the request of applicant Land Bank Properties LLC's representative, attorney Brett W. Allard.
During its rules-of-procedure discussion, the board identified and began addressing significant liability gaps in Section 12 regarding abutter notification, with Land Use Administrator William Kiechle flagging discrepancies between town assessor and GIS databases that could result in missed notifications. The board voted to shift notification responsibility from applicants to the Land Use Administrator and unanimously corrected and closed multiple escrow accounts.
