Selectmen back $5.29 million budget and fund 24/7 fire staffing

NH NEWTON — Newton Selectmen approve $5.29 million budget; support 24/7 fire staffing. Town Administrator Paula Mahoney presented the proposed operating budget of $5,296,957.17, including a Health Department cost of $6,195 that was previously overlooked. All four selectmen unanimously endorsed the budget and warrant articles including $370,000 to establish permanent 24/7 fire and EMS department staffing, $500,000 for land acquisition, $200,000 for highway improvements, and smaller appropriations for a contingency fund, aquatic invasive species prevention, and field maintenance.
Selectman Daniel Guide highlighted improvements in the town's financial management, citing 2024 auditing cost reductions from $39,000 to $19,000.
