Selectmen approve firefighter hires and $73,000 in capital purchases

NH NEWTON — Newton Board of Selectmen unanimously approves firefighter hires and capital equipment spending. The board hired three firefighters: Christopher Miller and Jeffrey Worman as Firefighter EMT Basic at $21.50 per hour, and Matthew Griswold as Firefighter AEMT Basic at $22.50 per hour. Fire Department purchases totaling $16,420 included $12,555 for uniforms and gear and $3,866 for quad equipment, while the Police Department approved a $56,999 purchase of a 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe.

The board also authorized $7,000 to $9,000 in additional auditing services for the 2024 audit and made four Conservation Commission and two Gale Library Trustee appointments.
