Newton Board hires firefighter and two police officers

Board of Selectmen · Meeting of June 16, 2026

NH NEWTON — Newton Board of Selectmen approves emergency personnel hires and addresses noise concerns. Chair Daniel Guide led the board to unanimously approve, 4-0, hiring Pro-Firefighter/EMT-A Jocelyn McCarville at $24.00 per hour and police officers Julio Velasquez and Bryce Eckstein. The board heard complaints from Plaistow residents about noise and environmental concerns from 125 Development operations, confirming coordination with the Planning Board on hours-of-operation restrictions.

The board voted to unseal nonpublic minutes regarding a stalled land purchase from the Estate of Chet Bearce, which collapsed when the trustee's attorney required a written contract never obtained.
