NEWTON BOARD APPROVES FIRE DEPARTMENT PAYROLL INCREASE

NH NEWTON — Newton Board approves fire department payroll increase, completes federal pandemic spending. The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize a payroll increase for fire department employees included in the 2026 approved budget, effective June 1, with no dollar amount disclosed. Emergency Management Director Trisha McCarthy reported the town fully expended $515,910.59 in American Rescue Plan Act funds on voting equipment, infrastructure, software upgrades, and parks improvements.

The board also unanimously approved $6,000 in veterans property tax credits for eight residents at $750 each.
