Conservation Commission votes to send letter on North Main project

NH NEWTON — Newton Conservation Commission acts on North Main development review. The commission voted unanimously to send a letter to the Department of Environmental Services regarding a nine-lot proposal at 104 North Main Street that would impact a Prime Wetland and Atlantic White Cedar Swamp requiring a 100-foot buffer, with specific requirements forwarded through West Environmental consulting firm. Following Chairperson Sandy Estabrook's motion, the commission also voted unanimously to schedule a site walk for May 27, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. to assess all-terrain vehicle damage to adjacent wetlands.

The commission addressed additional property matters at 11 Merrimac Road and 39 Whittier and clarified its jurisdiction regarding town-owned wetlands.
