Board seeks competitive bids for landfill services after cost surge to $43,000

NH NEWTON — Newton selectmen direct review of landfill monitoring after contract renewal surges 65 percent. Town Administrator Paula Mahoney reported the RW Gillespie contract rising from $26,000 to $43,000 annually due to higher sample analysis fees. The board directed Mahoney to solicit competitive quotes and investigate the cost increase.

In routine business, the board unanimously approved an Assessor's contract renewal with no increase, forest fire payroll of $162, a wage increase for Firefighter Tucker Carlisle to $21.50 per hour, and acceptance of a $300 food pantry donation.
