Board of Selectmen approves $5.3M operating budget and $500K land acquisition

NH NEWTON — Newton Selectmen approve $5.3M operating budget and $500K land purchase. The board voted unanimously to acquire 4.73 acres on Merrimac Road for $500,000, with $250,000 from the Building Capital Reserve Fund and $250,000 from general taxation. Additional warrant articles approved include $370,000 to establish permanent 24/7 Fire and EMS department funding, $40,000 for a contingency fund, $6,031 for a Lake Host Program targeting invasive aquatic plants, and $7,200 for Greenie Park ball field repairs.

The board also appointed Hailey Sitar as Fire Warden and increased health inspection fees from $50 to $75 per inspection effective immediately.
