Zoning Board of Adjustment · Meeting of September 2, 2026

NH NEWTON — Zoning board approves wetland variance for Highland Street addition and barn. The Zoning Board of Adjustment voted unanimously to grant a variance at 9 Highland Street, allowing a 26-by-38-foot dwelling addition with attached garage and a 30-by-30-foot detached barn within the required 50-foot wetland buffer. SEC Associates engineer Tom Schomburg, presenting for CIB Custom Homes, noted that site topography made locations outside the buffer impractical, and the board found the application met all five statutory variance criteria.

Abutters have 30 days to pursue an appeal. The board also heard extensive discussion from Town Moderator Robert Dezmelyk on the proper procedure for appointing board members, triggered by the August appointment of Michael Doggett as an alternate.
