Board approves $50,000 settlement for incorrect tax assessment

Board of Selectmen · Meeting of May 5, 2026

NH NEWTON — Newton Board of Selectmen approves $50,000 tax settlement. The board unanimously approved a $50,000 settlement with 125 Development Corporation to resolve an incorrect prior-year tax assessment, allocating $20,000 in future tax credits and $30,000 via check. In other business, Selectmen authorized a Fire Department purchase of a Ferno stair chair for $5,440.

Road Agent Mike Pivero reported significant infrastructure challenges, noting the annual paving budget of $45,000 is insufficient to address years of neglect, and recommended pursuing a $5 million bond to address long-deferred road repairs.
